Dressage Lessons for Young Adults and Adults

Personalized Instruction for Every Rider

Whether you're taking your first lesson, riding for enjoyment, or preparing to compete in the show ring, our private and semi-private lessons are designed around your individual goals. We focus on building strong fundamentals, confidence, and horsemanship in a supportive, encouraging environment.

Consistent practice is the key to success, which is why we recommend a monthly lesson schedule to help riders develop their skills and continue making steady progress.

Hunter/Jumper Training

We also offer hunter/jumper instruction for riders with their own horses. Haul-ins are welcome, and lessons are tailored to meet the needs of both horse and rider.

Lesson Packages

We value our riders' commitment and are pleased to offer a pre-payment discount on all four-lesson packages, making it easier to stay on track with regular instruction and continued progress.

Private Lesson Pricing

  • The pre-payment discount is only available when payment is received before the first lesson of the package. Payments made after the lesson date will be charged the single-lesson price multiplied by four for the month.

    • Four-lesson packages are designed to be completed within the same calendar month to maintain consistent progress.

Cancellations and Make-ups

  • We understand life happens!

  • To remain eligible for a make-up session, please provide at least 24 hours' notice for any cancellation. *Without this notice, the lesson is forfeited and billed at full price.

  • Lessons are held to a strict schedule. Arrivals more than 15 minutes late will be considered a "no-show," resulting in a cancelled session and a full charge.

    • If a lesson is missed with proper notice, a make-up session will be scheduled within five weeks of the first of the month. Please note that make-up credits do not roll over to the following month's tuition.

  • We offer one "short-notice" illness cancellation every 90 days at no charge. The instructor will provide specific dates for your rescheduled session.

  • To ensure the safety of both horse and rider, the instructor reserves the right to adjust lesson length based on weather conditions, rider stamina, or concentration levels.

Lesson Attire & Requirements

  • Riders must wear boots with a hard 1/2-inch heel (no sneakers, sandals, or flat-bottom shoes allowed). Paddock boots with half chaps or tall boots are required after your fourth lesson.

  • Riders must wear long pants. Riding pants required after your fourth lesson. Shirts must be tucked in. Long hair pulled back and in a ponytail. Please do not wear tank tops.

  • All riders must wear a helmet. It is best to bring your own to ensure proper fit, but if you don’t have one, we will provide one until you get your own.

  • Due to the age and size of our lesson ponies, we are unable to accommodate beginner riders over 180 lbs.

Testimonials

Jes Lackey

I switched to Hill Crest from another facility about a year ago and I LOVE it here. I thought learning to ride as an adult would be awkward, but I was way off. Lisa is an incredible teacher, and makes the whole experience comfortable and rewarding. I also really benefit from lessons with Terri, who is also a wonderful instructor, and a calming presence. I would recommend this place to anyone. P.S. The horses are so well cared for and sweet and lovely, and I think about them all week. My weekly lesson is real self-care. 10/10 would recommend.

After losing my horse and taking a long hiatus, I wasn’t sure I’d ever return to the sport. Finding Hill Crest Farms in my late twenties has been a total turning point. Lisa and Terri have an incredible ability to meet adult riders where they are, perfectly blending technical expertise with genuine encouragement. For the first time in years, I’m excited to be at the barn. I can’t recommend Hill Crest enough to anyone seeking a professional, supportive home for their equestrian journey.

Mikaela Mastromatto

I absolutely love Hill Crest Farm! Lisa, the owner and trainer, is extremely knowledgeable and patient. I switched over from the hunters/jumpers discipline and I have been LOVING dressage. Every lesson focuses on specific skills that build from the previous lesson and I’ve been learning SO much. Lisa is great at explaining and demonstrating what she is teaching. I need that as an adult beginner!
Everyone I have met at the barn has been friendly and the barn is always tidy. I can definitely tell the horses are well taken care of and happy.

Hill Crest Farm has both a beautiful barn and indoor arena.  Lisa and Teri are wonderful dressage instructors who are incredibly experienced as well as uplifting, confidence-boosting and patient.  I feel fortunate to have found this barn and proud to be a student here.  Their care for the horses is top notch and the love they have for them is obvious.

My daughter started riding lessons with a therapeutic program. She discovered a love for riding and wanted to take lessons. We found Hill Crest Farm, Lisa and, since Teri. In her 2 years at Hill Crest, she has made amazing progress and has come to love all aspects of care taking along with riding. Lisa and Teri are great teachers - very patient and encouraging. Students don't just ride, they also learn about the tack, grooming and parts of the horses.

Beth K

I have been at Hil Crest Farm for over 10 years.  Lisa treats all the horses just like they are one of her own.  They are well loved and cared for with nice clean stalls and always have access to hay and water.  I love how she take of the fields so that the pastures are not over grazed with horses being turned out in small groups.  Have the use of an indoor has been great to keep riding all year long and I am excited for the addition of the outdoor as well.  My boy is very happy at Hill Crest with all his friends and I couldn’t ask for a better farm family for myself.  I love spending time at the barn and being around everyone whether in the saddle or out
